Here's the good-old-DUKW. Basically its a 6x6 truck with a floating body fitted. These were used extensively in most theatres during World War Two and some survive today, often being used as tourist vehicles. The Australian Army was using them as recently as the Vietnam conflict to get troops and materiel ashore when no port facilities were available.
